Cioccolata Calda from La Cucina Prima Dona's blog in an RV

It's not often that I see a recipe that I get really excited about. Not often at all. When one of my fellow food bloggers posted her recipe for this delicious Italian hot chocolate, it was one of those recipes that went BAM! I knew I had to make it! I will post a link to the blog that has the original recipe so that everyone can view it. While you're there, give her some blog love and sign up to follow her amazing Italian cooking blog. Her name is Caroline.
This recipe starts out with whole milk and heavy cream that gets warmed over medium-low heat in a saucepan. You do not want it boil, you want it to just get hot.
This recipe also contains cornstarch...2 tablespoons.
Sugar...go look at Caroline's blog for the amount.
And...dark chocolate. Caroline recommends at least 75% dark, I used 90% and a little bit of a Hershey's Special Dark.
This all gets whisked together until it's smooth and creamy...well, it's GONNA be creamy...you have all that milk and cream in there!!
 Whisk, whisk, whisk!
Now those of you who know me know that I do not follow a recipe. I am ever the recipe tweaker. I only did one small little tweak to these. I added a teaspoon of really good double strength vanilla while I was whisking the chocolate smooth. I think a teaspoon or two of instant espresso would be awesome, too. I'm definitely going to using this recipe quite often in the future.
Cioccolata Calda or Italian Hot Chocolate! Click here for the recipe. So freaking good!!!! I grated some extra chocolate over the top and this was an over-the-top delicious dessert after an Austerity Dinner of Kielbasa and Cabbage.

  1. So I said that I looked forward to reading your blog everyday now and that was the last day I got to read it! Hopefully I am back for real this time lol! I went to the Italian cooking blog you referenced here and I think it might become the 2nd one I actually follow (yours is first of course). I hope you are finally feeling better. Have a great day!

  2. Well that looks amazing! I do love a good hot chocolate. I find myself wondering what would happen if I made extra and put some in the ice cream machine...
